Puerto Natales is one of the most southern cities of Chile. It is located on the shore of the "Canal Señoret" and the eastern slope of the Andes, which is known at that latitudes as the "Patagonian Andes". It is also the capital of the province “Ultima Esperanza”, named after the explorer Juan Ladrillero, who thus described as his "last hope" of finding the "Magellan Strait" from north to south.
This wonderful city is one of the main tourist destinations of the country, worldwide recognized for being a gateway to beautiful natural landscapes like "Torres del Paine National Park", the "Milodon Cave" Natural Monument and the "Glacier National Park".
Its economy is based on livestock, fisheries and tourism. The city has a population greater than 16.000 people, and has a cold climate with southern mediterranean influence. Puerto Natales is located at 247 km to the north of Punta Arenas and 48 km far from Rio Turbio (Argentina). It can be accessed by air or sea (with lower frequencies).
Its surroundings are suitable for skiing and rafting in "Turbio River", and sailing through glaciers "Balmaceda" and "Serrano", among others. A visit to the "Bernardo O'Higgins National Park" is also interesting, which is home of the last "Alacalufes" or canoe "Kawésqar" (earliest habitants of the area). Fishing is very common in rivers and lakes of the area, as well as horse riding and hiking (offered by the peripheral farms and ranches). In the surroundings, some farms and ranches offer placements to enjoy a daily work, and the opportunity to taste their delicious meet and beef barbecues.
At night you can enjoy several activities as an excellent gastronomic proposal, trying luck at the casino or enjoying some impressive night panoramas. Puerto Natales has a full hotel infrastructure, very used as a base for expeditions to the different regional attractions mentioned above.
